Love on the road

What began as a fun little project for mom and I during the midst of a pandemic in a hot midwestern town, turned into being one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Throughout most of last summer, I cut thousands of flowers, assembled and wrapped in brown paper. Mom and I headed out each Friday morning with a carload of bouquets, frequently comparing our lists for whom we felt could use a 'lifter upper'. We thoughtfully picked out a dozen or so folks each week, considering shut ins, celebrations, recoveries, front line heroes, leaders in the community, entrepreneurs, family, friends and more. Our primary goal was to bring joy in something as simple and beautiful as God's flowers. We quickly discovered much more. We heard many different stories and felt many different needs. But what rang true in every drop off was this: people need people and flowers bring smiles. The joy expressed by those we touched did more for us than we did for them. And the best part? Spending every Friday with my mom -- my own personal hero and inspiration. Together, we truly shared 'love on the road'.
